Neo Studios, Second Tuesday Art Critique

Tue Nov 10, 2009, 9:00 PM
Tonight I skipped my chemistry class so that I could attend an art critique at Neo Studios in Denver. Three professional artists, two amateurs, and myself (also an amateur) sat and presented art work to one another. I saw some creative and beautiful works tonight. Each artist had their own styles and subject matter. I felt really dumb just being there. When it was my turn to present my piece, I was dumbfoundedly nervous. I had just seen some amazing pieces and I had to step up and present something that I did on a spur of the moment. Surprisingly, they liked it. I explained to them that I admire the Dadaists view on spontaneity and Jackson Policks ideal of the process being as important as the product. They had some very constructive and positive feedback that will help me finish my piece. I decided to present "Don't Let Me Down," which is a very personal piece. I was scared shitless that they were gonna tear it apart. However, they said that it was very nice, with a great contrast between the heart and the blue surrounding the watch. They all liked it and said that there was so much symbolism behind it. Ben (one of the pro's) asked me why I chose the heart. I explained that I was dealing with a lot of inner emotional conflict and confusion, so I had to let it all out in a form that words can't do alone. I just need to finish on the areas surrounding the heart and it should be finished. So, since it went well, I'm going to go to each "Second Tuesday Art Critiques" for the next few months and if all goes as well as it did tonight, I'll submit my art to one of the galleries on Santa Fe for "First Friday."

If you live in Colorado and would like a good critique on your artwork, I highly suggest going to "Second Tuesday" at Neo Studios on 9th and Santa Fe, in Denver, Colorado. The artists there offer great feedback and suggestions and have some art that anyone could learn from.

Lol way to poppy for me. You know me, if it doesn't have some type of blues or rock influence I dun like it. Unless of course it's Baroque, classical, or romantic era music. Cool video though.
